Día de los Muertos
Our friend, Carolina, from Fun for Spanish Teachers explains the meaning of this celebration really well on her amazing blog. Be sure to follow her facebook page as she is constantly posting helpful resources for Spanish class.
You should also check out this video. It's a 3 minute animated video that explains the bittersweet feeling of Día de los Muertos in a really nice way.
Additionally, check out our friend Jenny's Day of the Dead facts in English and Spanish. She has a great blog, Spanish Playground. You can follow her facebook page. Carolina's and Jenny's facebook pages and blogs are where I go when I need some inspiration, so make sure you follow them!
We wanted to contribute, so I wrote a song explaining the basics of what people in Mexico do during this celebration. (Please note that Día de los Muertos is also celebrated in other countries in Central America and in Spain. They have somewhat different traditions. In some countries it is known as Día de Todos los Santos and it is celebrated on November first). Check out the song lyrics and drawings below.
We created a picture dictionary with fun coloring pages that we hope your students will enjoy coloring while singing the song.
Have fun celebrating in class!
